BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS HARDWARE

The right hardware for the way your business communicates.

Understand IP phones, wireless handsets, headsets, meeting-room equipment and the network behind a reliable conversation.

BEHIND EVERY CONVERSATION

01 / THE PLATFORMWhere calls are managed.
02 / THE CONNECTIONHow they reach your team.
03 / THE DEVICEWhat people use every day.

Choose them together.

Different roles.
Connected decisions.

Start with what people need to do. Then look at the devices, connections and support that make it possible.

02

DECT & Wireless

Cordless business phones and multi-cell systems for people moving around offices, warehouses, shops and other workplaces.

03

Headsets

USB, Bluetooth and DECT headsets for desk phones, computers, softphones and contact-centre environments.

04

Conference & Meeting

Conference phones, speakerphones, cameras and room equipment that help people hear, see and collaborate.

05

IP Cameras & Intercoms

Network-connected cameras, SIP door phones and intercoms where communications and physical access overlap. A network camera is not necessarily a telephone endpoint.

06

Voice Gateways & SBCs

Equipment and software that connect analogue, legacy or SIP voice systems, or control voice traffic between networks. Gateways and SBCs perform different roles.

THE WHOLE CALLING ENVIRONMENT

How the hardware
fits together.

The phone is one part of a system. The platform manages calls, the network connects equipment, and each endpoint gives a person a way to communicate.

Cloud PBX / communications platform & voice providerHosted call control and external calling services; these may be different suppliers.
Internet connection
  1. Router / firewallConnects and controls traffic at the office boundary.
  2. Network / PoE switchConnects local devices; PoE can power supported equipment.
  3. EndpointsDesk phone, wireless base/phone, softphone with headset, conference device or SIP intercom.
Using an on-premises PBX?

The PBX connects to the local network instead of running in the cloud. It can reach a voice provider through the router/firewall and a supported trunk. Wireless devices may use a Wi-Fi access point or a DECT base; a headset usually connects to a phone or computer.

A simplified connectivity view, not a mandatory audio path. Signalling and media can take different routes; SBCs, gateways and remote endpoints depend on the design.

BEFORE YOU CHOOSE A DEVICE

Compatibility
needs context.

A SIP-capable device is not automatically supported or certified for every platform. Check the exact model, firmware and features together.

Supported
A platform or supplier explicitly supports a stated device and configuration. Check the model, firmware and who will help when something fails.
Certified
A device has met a named platform’s certification programme for a stated scope. Certification applies to that programme, not every service or feature.
Compatible
Equipment can work together in a particular configuration. This alone is not a commitment to vendor support or proof that every feature works.
Legacy / limited support
A device may still operate while updates, provisioning or assistance are restricted. Check lifecycle notices and the practical replacement plan.

These terms help you ask better questions. They are not compatibility verdicts on any particular product. See how device choices differ for Teams calling.

KNOW THE NAMES

Manufacturers
you’ll come across.

A starting point for your research, without rankings or implied commercial relationships. Model-level specifications and support still need checking.

Editorial conclusions should stand on evidence. Any future purchase offers will be presented separately from specifications, compatibility and guidance.

MAKE A USEFUL SHORTLIST

The questions
before the equipment.

Write down the working environment before comparing models. A useful brief covers the system and the people using it.

Platform & people

Which communications platform will you use? How many people need devices, and what do their roles require?

Connections & power

Who needs wired or wireless access? Check PoE capacity, coverage and headset connections.

Shared spaces & reception

Plan reception keys and colleague status (BLF), meeting rooms and equipment shared by several people.

Management & lifecycle

Confirm provisioning, firmware updates, ownership of support and the expected service life.

YOUR BUSINESS COMES FIRST

Start with the system,
not the phone.

Bring your people, platform and calling needs into one conversation. Clear requirements make the equipment decision easier.
